I've heard from a few people that the later design of fuel filters for diesel transits (MK5/Smiley/'95-'99) are pretty hopeless and dont last very long. Certainly the last few months justifies this (1000 miles on the last filter before it blocked).
Having just asked a mate of mine who also does this he says it is a simple case of filtering the oil properly before you use it. problem now will be that your tank is contaminated with plus 1 micron bits so even if you sort out the filtration problem

I believe that starting with a 25 and ending with a 5 may be close to the way to go depending on the quality of the oil. High quality oil is the only way to go in the long run. I’m sure it’s very good but I fell asleep after 2mins. It’s no good saying, “it’s a 420 filter as it’s 4inches wide and 20inches long”. Describe what each bit does and how you refine the vegetable oil and check acidity etc. A diagram would be good. If you put that stuff in a modern diesel engined car it would destroy the pump seals and injectors…it’s too acidic, and it’s bad for modern engines. It’s fine in a 20year old non turbo Volvo, but NEVER in a new TDCi car.
